£120m Of Luxury Cars Up In Flames

A ship containing 4,000 luxury cars, including Bentley’s and Porsche’s was under threat last week as all crew were evacuated following an on-board fire.

The Felicity Ace, a 650-foot-long vessel, had been sailing from Emden in Germany and was headed for Daisville, Rhode Island to deliver its valuable cargo to customers in the United States.

The Portuguese Air Force rescued the 22-man crew from the ship but an investigation has so far not revealed how many of the vehicles have been damaged, either by smoke or fire.

The ship regularly makes the trans-Atlantic trip carrying luxury European car brands such as Lamborghini and Porsche. It’s thought that there were 1,100 Porsche’s on board, with customers first alerted to the incident by the company’s own ‘Track Your Dream’ website, which allowed those who bought a car to follow their car digitally.

One of the those customers, Matt Farah, a YouTuber who has a popular Vlog ‘The Smoking Tire’ was one of the unlucky customers.

He said: “I just got a call from my dealer. My car is now adrift, possibly on fire, in the middle of the ocean,

“I’m glad no one was hurt in the fire and everyone is safe, which is the most important thing.

"I’m sure that whatever happens going forward, Porsche will do right by their customers.”

In a statement, a Porsche spokesperson confirmed that many of their vehicles were on the ship.

"Our immediate thoughts are of the 22 crew of the merchant ship Felicity Ace, all of whom we understand are safe and well as a result of their rescue by the Portuguese Navy following reports of a fire on board.

"We believe a number of our cars are among the cargo onboard the ship. No further details of the specific cars affected are available at this time – we are in close contact with the shipping company and will share more information in due course."
