Mercedes have been teasing their electric vehicles with concept models for the last three or four years, but now, under subsidiary company Smart they will be launching the real thing.
The Smart EQ ForTwo, ForFour and ForTwo Cabrio will be leading Mercedes’ charge into the electric future. The launch of the new EQ brand comes with a Smart Nightsky Edition available for all three models and featuring black alloy wheels and a ‘hallmark blue EQ paint finish’.
As you might expect with a Smart car, the vehicles will come with their own smartphone app, which will allows owners to control the temperature of their vehicle from a distance and also monitor the progress of their charging.
Owners will also allow others to access their vehicle, with a ‘Ready To Share’ option to authorise friends and colleagues to enter the vehicle and find a specially locked key inside in order to drive away without the owner being present.
"With the smart EQ ForTwo/ForFour, we are putting the first products from the Mercedes-Benz Cars EQ family on urban roads and showing how much fun electric mobility can be,” said EQ Smarts’ chief executive, Dr Annette Winkler.
