The challenges of the pandemic have not had a significant effect on the spending intentions of the great British public according to new market research.
French car brand DS surveyed more than 2,000 people and found that 24 per cent are still likely to make a premium purchase over the next 12 months, with items such as jewellery, technology, designer clothing and holidays top of the list. Encouragingly for DS and other car brands, 28.3 per cent said they were likely to purchase a new car over the next year.
And though the coronavirus has not dentend spending power too much, the DS survey found that consumers are putting the price above any other consideration, with 60 per cent saying it is the most important factor. Materials (42%), brand name (39%) and reputation (39%) are the next most important choices.
Consumers also put much of their purchasing faith in provenance, with luxury goods from Paris beating stylish goods from Milan, London and New York.
Head of Product at DS Automobiles, Vince Clisham said: “It’s no surprise that Paris has been voted the most stylish capital by the UK public as it is well known for producing the very best in premium goods, be it cars, fashion, cosmetics or jewellery.
Every DS model we produce is built with French savoir-faire in mind, meaning that from the way the car is designed to how it performs is all with a premium look and feel in mind, to provide our customers with the ultimate driving experience.”
