Car Buyers Race For Nearly-New EVs

The rise in availability of electric cars on the nearly new market has created a supply and demand issue like never before.

As buyers clamber for the best deals on electric vehicles, latest data from June reveals that the fastest selling nearly-new cars are all EVs. The popularity of EVs will come as no surprise to many industry insiders, the cost of petrol and diesel is currently making like hard for the millions of British motorists, and many are seeking a bargain on used car forecourts.

The analysis, published by Auto Trader, shows that the nearly new versions of the MINI Electric, Hyundai IONIQ 5, MG MG5, and Tesla Model 3 are all leading the way, taking just 24 days on average to sell. Even the petrol cars that have made the top ten have a reputation for fuel economy, the Kia Picanto makes up one of three hatchbacks which occupy places 8-10 on the list.

Kia is well represented on the fastest selling car list, with the Niro and Soul all flying out the doors. Kia also do well on a similar report published by Indicata, which says that the Kia Niro is the UK’s fastest selling used car, with the IONIQ again coming second on the podium.

“The data highlights just how fast the electric market has moved on since last year,” said Richard Walker from Auto Trader.

“Fuelled by greater choice, better range, and more awareness, electric vehicles are now very much in the public consciousness.

“And with no end in sight of the rocketing fuel prices, for those that can afford the ‘green premium’, making the switch has never been more appealing, especially as we calculate the average EV driver can save around £176 per 1,000 miles using a home charger.

“Clearly there is a real growing opportunity here for retailers in not just the new car market, but the used too.”
