Chinese EV With 436 Miles Range Heads For Europe

Chinese brand Xpeng has published new information on their new EV, an SUV which they claim will have a range of 436 miles.

The new G9 ‘smart SUV’ is the fourth vehicle in the firm’s line-up following the P5 and P7 sedans, and the smaller G3i SUV. The G9 is positioned at the summit of Xpeng’s line-up and is a halo model thanks to its abundance of advanced technology.

Based on Xpeng's 'Edward' platform for large cars with wheelbases between 2.8 and 3.1 metres. The Tesla Model Y and the Nissan Ariya are two automobiles the G9 will compete with. There are six different specifications available, each with a different motor configuration.

The G9 is an SUV-style smart electric vehicle positioned in the medium- to high-end smart electric SUV sector. Its SUV makeover of Xpeng P7 sedan is unmistakable. An ultra-thin, full-width DRL strip sits on top of the bonnet, separate headlights with two LiDAR sensors, a smooth mask in place of a traditional radiator grille, a lower air intake with a mesh pattern, and an elegantly designed bonnet are all present.

The G9's greenhouse has a streamlined glasshouse, flush-fit handles, and smooth-surfaced door panels on the sides. The rear of the G9 is styled after the P7, with block-lettered 'XPENG' branding and full-width tail lamps. However, the SUV looks more massive.

The RWD Standard Range models (570G and 570E) (with a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds and a 308hp, 430Nm rear-mounted motor) claim a 354-mile range using the Chinese testing procedure, which is more optimistic than the WLTP regime used for European vehicles. The RWD Long Range model has the same motor and performance specs as the Standard Range model but achieves 436 miles on the CLTC.

“Xpeng G9 is the first model of Xiaopeng Motors that was launched for domestic and international markets at the beginning of its development,” says Xpeng Motors president, Xia Heng. “It also shows the determination of Xiaopeng Motors to move towards internationalisation.”
