Does Your Car Qualify For Veganuary?

Wed 1st Jan 2020

As more and more major car brands are offering animal friendly alternatives to leather interiors, the option to add your car to this month’s Veganuary is now available.

According to animal welfare charity PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) companies such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Ford and Tesla are all making moves towards after being put under pressure.

PETA are shareholders in Tesla and were able to ask questions at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, directly confronting cofounder Elon Musk with the questions. It was confirmed that both of Tesla’s high-volume models the Model 3 and Model Y will offer leather and wool free cabins including seats and steering wheel. Volkswagen have confirmed that the ID.3 and e-up! Will also have animal friendly alternatives while Mercedes-Benz will also be producing a Vision EQS made using vegan Nappa leather which is made of recycled plastic, which otherwise would have ended up in the ocean. Bentley too are another major brand who are using grape leather, which is made up from leftovers of the wine industry.

Speaking on the charity’s website, a PETA statement said: “PETA is ecstatic that the biggest brands in the industry have come this far, but we won’t stop until all car companies use only 100% leather-free and vegan interiors!”
Thousands will be taking part in a meat and dairy-free January month as part of Veganuary. And if you were thinking of purchasing a car this month then PETA have published a list of cars which come with Vegan options.
