EV6 Sparks Bumper October For Kia

Mon 8th Nov 2021

The launch of a brand new electric vehicle option has allowed Kia to dominate the sales list for EVs during October.

In what has been a week of celebration for the Korean brand, Kia also saw the newly launched EV6 crowned 2022 German Premium Car of the Year, beating established EV performers such as the VW ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron and the Skoda Enyaq. A jury of 20 automotive journalists evaluated new models priced between 25,000 and 50,000 euros, and the Kia came out on top.

The EV6 has been well received across the continent, particularly in the UK where Kia delivered 369 models, from an order bank of 1,600. Combined with sales of the e-Niro and the Soul EV, Kia managed to sell 1,699 EVs in October, 22.8 per cent of its total sales.

However, it wasn’t just electric vehicles which the British public were charged-up for, the company saw a 22.1 per cent increase in all sales on the previous October, with 7,436 cars sold, the Niro range was the best-seller with 2,479 units shifted, followed by the Sportage, Picanto and Xceed.

“October has been another strong month for Kia sales volumes, particularly for our growing line-up of battery EVs,” said Kia CEO, Paul Philpott. “With a strong bank of more than 1,600 pre-orders, we were particularly excited to deliver our first EV6 orders to UK customers in October – a milestone which enabled our dealers to boost our EV sales to new heights.”

The brand will be hoping that sales will be further boosted by the launch of the fifth generation Sportage, which began European production in Slovakia this month.
