Motor trade experts Glass’s are forecasting another buoyant used car market in 2018 as demand for brand new vehicles continues to slow.
With new diesels in particular coming under pressure due to confusion caused by the media and government, new car registrations dipped by 5.4% in 2017.
However, this has served to increase activity in the used car sector and, in it’s January market report Glass's said: "There is more potential for used cars to be available in 2018.
“We are entering a period where the used car is king, more than the new car."
Forecasting the market for 2018, Glass’s editor Rob Donaldson added: "There could be a reduction in the new car market of around 5-6% and we are seeing a lot more supply in the used arena. But to counter this, as people pull away from the new car market, there will be increased demand for used vehicles.”
