GoldenEye Aston Martin Set To Break Records At Auction

An Aston Martin, which featured in James Bond’s GoldenEye movie, looks set to break records and become the most expensive DB5 ever when it is sold at auction this summer.

The DB5 was made famous by Pierce Brosnan, who was making his Bond debut in the GoldenEye movie and raced the Aston Martin against femme fatale Xenia Onatopp played by Famke Jansse, The DB5 took on a Ferrari 355 in the iconic scene along the mountain roads above Monaco.

GoldenEye was the first time we had seen an Aston Martin DB5 being driven by the super-spy since Sean Connery had been at the wheel in the mid-1960s.

“The DB5 is one of the most recognisable and desirable British classic cars in the world — it is also the ultimate Bond car,” said Sholto Gilbertson, Bonhams Motor Cars Department Director.

“Every fan remembers Pierce Brosnan tearing through the hills in this car, and it must be up there as one of the most thrilling Bond car chases in history. This Aston Martin is something very special indeed.”

The car is currently owned by entrepreneur Max Reid, after he paid £157,000 for it in 2001. Legend has it that radio DJ Chris Evans had hoped to bid for the car, but arrived too late to make an offer for the DB5. The anticipated price of the DB5 at auction is expected to be between £1.2m and £1.6m.

The car will be sold at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13th, but is being displayed at Bonhams in Reading prior to the sale.
