Korean car manufacturer Hyundai have been recognised for their excellence in the emerging EV sector by claiming car manufacturer of the year at the EVIE Awards.
The Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards celebrate the very best in every aspect of electric vehicle innovation, from the way we live, work and travel to aspects such as making our roads smarter and our air cleaner.
The Original Equipment Manufacturer Award was judged on the existing suite of electric cars, a standard which Hyundai rated very highly on, with almost three-quarters of Hyundai’s line-up set to be electrified by the end of the year. In what has been a low year of sales, due to the pandemic, the company have still managed to sell an impressive 18,000 EVs in the UK.
Hyundai picked up the award ahead of stiff competition from Groupe PSA and Nissan, with the company’s Nexo fuel-cell technology recognised as ‘game-changing’ for the UK market.
“The calibre of nominations for the inaugural Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards, organised by Solar Media, has been exceptional, and that was particularly felt within the Manufacturer of the Year category,” said EVIE head judge Liam Stoker. “Hyundai stood out from other nominees this year due to the company’s commitment to providing products to meet all needs, and our judging panel felt the addition of the Kona and Ioniq vehicles in particular had been game changing for the UK EV market. We congratulate Hyundai UK on a thoroughly deserved award.”
