Hyundai Promises Light Fantastic For Next-Gen Ioniq

Not content with winning a whole host of car of the year awards for their Ioniq 5, Korean car brand Hyundai has this week unveiled a new look Ioniq 6.

The all-electric Ioniq will certainly catch the eye, and though many might recognise the car as a saloon, Hyundai are brave enough to describe it as a ‘Streamliner’ with many design features, borrowed from boat design.

Hyundai promised big changes for the new-look and they have certainly delivered, with the Ioniq 6 looking like it has spent most of its development time stuck inside the wind-tunnel, but that aerodynamic styling is not the most startling feature of this brave new world of motoring, not at all. The Ioniq 6 promises a dazzling light show for driver and passengers, with a stunning 700 Parametric Pixel lights located in many of the places you might expect on a vehicle, and some you might not expect them.

The Hyundai press release promises a cocoon like cabin for those who are inside the vehicle, and those aerodynamics promise a lowest ever drag coefficient of 0.21, which will help the EV reach its advertised range of 300 miles.

“IONIQ 6 connects an emotional convergence of functionality with aesthetics,” Executive Vice President of Hyundai Design, SangYup Lee said. “The distinctive streamlined design is the result of close cooperation between engineers and designers, with obsessive attention to detail and customer-centric values at the core. We have created the IONIQ 6 as a mindful cocoon that offers personalised place for all.”

The company has not revealed full specifics as of yet, but there is expected to be a choice of batteries ranging from 58kWh to 77.4kWh and the promise too of a sports version which will aim for 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds.
