With the launch of the INEOS Grenadier now just a year away, the company behind the retro-styled 4x4 have given a glimpse into what passengers might expect on the inside of the vehicle.
With rubber flooring, water resistant seats and wipe down upholstery, there is certain to be an emphasis on rugged and no mistaking at where they are pitching the Grenadier, they expect the 4x4 to go off-road, they expect it to get dirty and they probably expect the vehicles occupants to be rough and ready also.
INEOS have certainly gone for simplicity, but also practicality, so where owners will be encouraged to take a hosepipe to the interior, with drain plugs fitted to the floor. The controls for the vehicle are sat in the roof to avoid the wiring getting too wet. This basic approach will also keep costs down and allow for it to achieve its price tag in the region of £30-40k.
That’s not to say that the design is now without innovation, there are two horns, one chunky one for normal use, and a lighter version for warning cyclists without alarming them. The Grenadier also comes with mod-cons such as Apple and Android integration.
"When we started thinking about the Grenadier's interior, we looked carefully at modern aircraft, boats and even tractors for inspiration, where switches are sited for optimal function, regular controls are close to hand, auxiliary ones are further away," said Toby Ecuyer, Head of Design.
He added: "You can see the same approach in the Grenadier: the layout is functional and logical, designed with ease of use in mind. It has everything you need and nothing you don't."
The order book for the INEOS Grenadier will open this October. Meanwhile the vehicle continues to be put through what will be almost two million kilometres of tests, with the next stage thought to be the dunes of Morocco.
