Jaguar Land Rover have collected a major accolade after seeing their EV, the I-PACE, recognised as the World Car of the Year for 2019.

Voted for by an 86-strong list of prominent global motoring journalists, the I-PACE defeated an initial shortlist of 40 cars, before it was shortlisted three finalists, with the Audi e-tron and Volvo S60/V60 the unlucky losers.

With a combination of sports car performance, exceptional refinement and SUV desirability, the I-PACE has created a new generation of EV drivers with more than 11,000 owners in more than 60 countries around the world.

“It is an honour that the Jaguar IPACE has received such an accolade from the prestigious World Car jurors,” said Ralf Speth, CEO of JLR.

“We started with an ideal, to move towards our Destination Zero vision; zero emissions, zero accidents and zero congestion. I-PACE is our first step to achieving this, and it was conceived when EVs were little more than a niche choice.

“So we started from a clean sheet of paper to create a new benchmark – the world's best premium electric vehicle, and a true Jaguar driver's car.

“For I-PACE to be awarded 2019 World Car of the Year gives our first all-electric vehicle the ultimate recognition it deserves. I would like to thank the team who have created I-PACE for their passion in making it so outstanding.”
