Kia Gatecrashes Europe

One of the fastest growing automotive brands in recent times has achieved another new milestone with an increased market share across Europe.

Korean brand Kia has announced this week that they have reached their highest ever market share in one of the toughest markets, Europe, with a 4.2 per cent share for the third quarter of 2021 (July-September). Kia had already broken their own record for the first half of the year with 3.9 per cent market share.

While the pandemic and microchip shortage has significantly hindered sales for many car brands, Kia saw sales grow by 24.5 per cent in 2020, with 387,716 units sold in the EU, UK and EFTA nations.

The continually popular Kia Sportage has proven to be the most popular model, shifting 88,580 models within the region. The Niro crossover has also been a hit with 70,537 sales, customers keen on the range of electrified and low-emission powertrains.

“While the wider automotive industry continues to recover from the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the semiconductor shortage, we have continued to experience extremely strong growth, achieving our highest ever market share,” said Jason Jeong, President at Kia Europe. “This is a testament to the strength of the new Kia brand and our stylish range of electrified and low-emissions vehicles.”

“What’s really exciting is that this is just the start of the journey for Kia. With the introduction of our all-new EV6 all-electric crossover and all-new Sportage just around the corner, we look forward to welcoming even more customers to the Kia family.”
