The British public might not get too many opportunities to drop the top down on their convertible motors, but for those that do, more often than not the best soft-top to drive is the MINI convertible.
With classic English styling combined with continental sophistication, the MINI convertible has once again won the ‘Convertible of the Year’ at this year’s Auto Express Awards 2021.
Described as a ‘compelling blend of fun, value for money and wind-in-the-hair thrills’, the MINI Convertible has won the award for the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time overall, beating a shortlist that included the Audi A5 Cabriolet and the Mazda MX-5.
The MINI Convertible has been the UK’s best-selling convertible since the latest generation launched in 2016, more than 30,000 have been sold to customers.
“We’re so proud of the MINI Convertible and its continued success. To win Best Convertible for the fifth time is a huge triumph and we’re extremely honoured that Auto Express continues to recognise the joy and open-air fun the car brings to our customers,” said David George, Director at MINI UK.
Auto Express recommend the MINI Convertible Cooper Sport as the best option, however there are a range of options. The Cooper has a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine delivering 136hp, the Cooper S a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with 178hp and the most powerful John Cooper Works has an output of 170kW/231hp from the same engine.
Speaking about the win for MINI, Steve Fowler, Editor at Auto Express said: “Another year and it’s another win for the fun-loving MINI Convertible. It’s the fourth victory in a row for the brilliant British drop-top, which continues to provide a compelling blend of fun, value-for-money and wind-in-the-hair thrills. A recent update has sharpened the MINI’s styling and improved the interior and tech. What remains unchanged, though, is the model’s huge appetite for fun.”
