Not content with grabbing headlines with their award-winning electric model released last year, MINI have now taken a softop version of their classic design stateside.
By the early 2030s, MINI will be the first from the BMW Group brand to go fully electric. The successful transition to electric mobility is best illustrated by the MINI Electric car, which was released in 2020. Its sales jumped by over 132% in 2021, making it the beating heart of the MINI brand.
This summer MINI has just released the MINI Electric as a convertible for the first time. Though the car is not a series production model, it still conveys a possible approach to becoming an all-electric premium brand in the future.
The MINI Electric Convertible will be revealed to the public for the first time at ‘MINI Takes the States’, a traditional community event in the United States.
Driving the winding roads between Burlington, Vermont, and Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina will give the MINI community a first impression of the typical MINI go-kart feeling in the MINI Electric Convertible.
Based on the body of the MINI Cooper S Convertible, the electrified MINI Convertible shares the same dimensions of 3,863 mm in length, 2,495 mm in wheelbase, 1,727 mm in width, and 2,495 mm in height. The load volume in the luggage compartment remains at 160 litres.
The MINI Electric Convertible uses the same drive components as the three-door MINI Electric. The BMW Group's electric mobility expertise centres in Dingolfing and Landshut supplied the drive technology. The small electric motor's evenly distributed axle load makes for agile and easy handling.
MINI Electric Convertible is equipped with a 135 kW/184 hp electric motor, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds. The vehicle offers excellent urban driving and longer range of up to 145 miles WLTP. It includes clever functionality in addition to open-top driving pleasure. The fully electric textile roof can be opened and closed in 18 seconds. The soft top can be activated at driving speeds up to 18 mph and offers three options: open, closed, or as a sunroof.
