On this day in auto history – February 1st

Mon 1st Feb 2021

On this day in 1986, Toyota became the first Japanese manufacturer to reach the magic milestone of producing 50 million vehicles.

Founded in 1937, Toyota didn’t manufacture its millionth vehicle until 1962 and it was another 10 years before it reached the 10 million landmark in 1972.

However, having worked hard to adapt its vehicle specifications to individual regions, Toyota experienced a period of rapid growth in exports markets throughout the 1970’s.

Having now produced well over 200 million vehicles, Toyota has topped global sales on numerous occasions this century and is currently jostling with Volkswagen for the title of world’s best-selling carmaker.

CarSupermarket.com currently stocks a wide range of Toyota models, all of which can be purchased online from the comfort of your living room and delivered direct to your door anywhere in mainland Britain.
