It was on this day in 2008 that production first began on the all-new Ford Kuga in Saarlouis, Germany.
Having debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show to positive reviews six months earlier, the compact SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) was Ford’s first venture into the growing and highly-lucrative crossover market.
Praised for its sharp styling and fine handling, sales of the Kuga exceeded market expectations in Europe and, after numerous facelifts, the vehicle now forms the basis for the rebadged Ford Escape in North America.
In the 10 years since the Kuga was launched, SUV’s and crossovers have become a global phenomenon and now account for 26 percent of all passenger car sales in Europe (up from 8 percent in 2008).
*Carsupermarket.com stocks hundreds of SUV’s and crossovers - including numerous Ford Kuga's - on our website which can be ordered from the comfort of your own home.
