On this day in 1946, Rover’s famous plant in Solihull was officially opened by high-profile politician Sir Stafford Cripps.
Originally named the 'Meteor Works', the factory began by producing the Rover P4.
Later, it went on to manufacture many of Rovers’ most famous vehicles until the late 1970’s, as well as being the development site of both the Land Rover and the Range Rover.
Having benefitted from massive investment since the turn of the century, Solihull’s state-of-the-art facility continues manufacture the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport today.
