On this day in auto history – February 9th

Tue 9th Feb 2021

On this day in 2010, Japanese giants Toyota and Honda both officially issued high-profile recalls to some of its models.

Toyota recalled over 437,000 Prius and other hybrid vehicles sold worldwide owing to brake issues.

Meanwhile, Honda had to recall over 400,000 vehicles due to faulty airbags.

The recalls were particularly damaging to Toyota, coming so soon after a series of other high-profile recalls, and contributed to a 10 per cent reduction of its share-price.

The Prius recovered from the blip and has got on to become the world’s best-selling hybrid car.
