On this day in auto history - January 26th

Tue 26th Jan 2021

On this day in the year 2000 that Ford shocked the financial world by announcing the largest annual profit in the auto industry’s history.

Following an exceptional fourth quarter in 1999, Ford exceeded analyst estimates by returning a massive $7.2 billion annual profit - the largest ever announced at that time.

Industry sales as a whole set an American record in 1999 with over 17 million new vehicles sold, 4.3 million of them by Ford alone.

However, within two years, it was a very different story for Ford when the company was announcing multi-billion losses, plant closures and 35,000 job cuts amid dwindling sales and an expensive turnaround plan.

CarSupermarket.com currently offers an extensive variety of Ford vehicles, all of which can be purchased from the comfort of your armchair and delivered direct to your door anywhere in mainland Britain.
