On this day in auto history - January 27th

Wed 27th Jan 2021

On this day in 2007, 33-year-old Timothy Brady became the fastest driver ever caught in a routine speed check in the UK.

A court heard how Brady from Harrow was clocked driving at a shocking 172mph in a £90,000 Porsche 911, actions described as “criminally self-indulgent” by the presiding judge.

He had reached the breakneck speed on a routine 70 mph stretch of the A420 dual-carriageway in Oxfordshire.

Eventually, Brady, who had taken the car from the luxury car hire firm where he worked as a delivery driver, was banned from driving for three years and sentenced to 10 weeks in jail.
