On this day in auto history - January 30th

Sat 30th Jan 2021

It was on this day in 1951 that legendary auto engineer Ferdinand Porsche passed away at the age of 75.

Born to German-speaking parents in the Austrian Empire, Porsche served as a technical director for numerous car companies and is, most famously, credited with designing the iconic Volkswagen Beetle at the behest of Adolf Hitler.

He founded his own company, Porsche, in Stuttgart in 1931 and specialised in producing high-performance sports cars as well as contributing heavily to the Nazi war effort by designing tanks.

Porsche remains a highly-successful company, with its vehicles being amongst the most profitable in the world.

CarSupermarket.com currently stocks a selection of Porsche models, all of which can be purchased online from the comfort of your living room and delivered direct to your door anywhere in mainland Britain.
