On this day in auto history - July 8th

Thu 8th Jul 2021

It was on this day in 2007 that the new line-up of BMW-designed Minis went on sale in the UK.

The German manufacturing giant had purchased outright ownership of the iconic British marque from the Rover Group the previous year and had restyled the vehicle from a straight economy car to a small, premium model.

The new Mini was available in Cooper, Cooper S and One variations and featured numerous extras to improve performance, all of which was captured brilliantly by a highly-acclaimed promotional campaign.

From day one, the new Mini proved a 'winner' with UK buyers, so much so that it has become a regular frequenter in Britain’s top 10 best sellers list, with annual sales now topping 350,000.
