It was on this day in 2004 that the first ever MINI convertibles went on sale in the UK to great acclaim.

Having recently rescued the iconic brand from the ailing Rover Group, new owners BMW had already enjoyed great success with its refreshed MINI design and the new convertible helped keep the momentum going.

With its striking soft-top styling, the MINI convertible created a massive buzz when it premiered at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and UK demand was already huge before it hit the showrooms three months later.

The MINI convertible was to go on sale in the USA later that year and its success helped the brand enjoy a record-breaking year as it closed in on 200,000 annual sales.

Now in its third generation, the MINI convertible has gone on to collect numerous awards since its launch and is firmly established as the best-selling convertible vehicle in the UK.
