On this day in auto history – March 7th

Sun 7th Mar 2021

On this day in 2003, the eagerly-awaited MINI One D was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show - the first series production Mini ever to feature a diesel engine.

Developed in cooperation with Toyota, the 1.4 litre engine was specially modified for the MINI and offered fuel consumption in the combined cycle at an average of 58.9 mpg.

The MINI One D was successful and represented another feather in the cap for owners BMW who had successfully revived the iconic British brand since acquiring it in the mid-1990’s.

Still with BMW, the MINI brand remains as popular as ever with an ever-expanding range and an enduring appeal amongst the trendy, young drivers who it is pitched at.
