On this day in auto history – May 31st

Mon 31st May 2021

It was on this day in 2014 that American singer/actress Miley Cyrus had a new custom-built Maserati Quattroporte sedan stolen in a high-profile burglary at her Los Angeles home.

The former teen idol, who was touring in Europe at the time, also lost expensive jewellery, handbags and clothing in the burglary which was carried out by young aspiring models Naomi Charles and Tyler Scott who were arrested after being recognised on surveillance video.

The young couple, just 19 and 21 respectively, were each sentenced to a prison term after pleading guilty to the theft which they admitted had been inspired by reading about the notorious ‘Bling Ring’ which had carried similar burglaries in the Hollywood Hills a few years earlier.

Cyrus’ luxury Maserati, capable of a top speed 176 mph, was recovered by police a few days after the burglary, having been abandoned in the Simi Valley area of Los Angeles.
