While England and Italy are aiming for European domination this weekend, the French have already scored a hat-trick by claiming major awards at the Auto Express New Car Awards.

French manufacturer Renault picked up the trio of accolades after making a huge impression on the judges from one of motoring’s most respected publications.

The French brand’s Zoe E-Tech took the ‘Affordable Electric Car of the Year’ gong, while the Clio and Captur lifted silverware in the ‘Supermini of the Year’ and ‘Small SUV of the Year’ categories. The victory was made all the more sweeter as it is the second year in succession that all three have collected the awards.

The Auto Express New Car Awards honour the very best vehicles from a range of 30 different categories, with the magazine’s journalists judging vehicles on a range of factors from affordability, comfort and economy.

The Zoe E-Tech was commended for its impressive range, the Clio was recognised for an attractive mix of practicality while the Captur topped out on value, versatility and technology.

“We are delighted to see our small car offering continue to win their categories in these widely-respected awards, especially as their sectors are now becoming more and more competitive and the vehicles increasingly advanced,” said Vincent Tourette, Managing Director of Renault UK.  “It’s a great illustration of our strength and vast experience in manufacturing compact vehicles that meet the evolving mobility habits of drivers while always providing them with exceptional value and an engaging ownership experience.”
