Renault Unveils Hydrogen Concept

French car manufacturer Renault has offered a glimpse into an alternatively fuelled future by teasing a new concept which has been designed to demonstrate the company’s commitment to sustainable fuel technology.

While most manufacturers have targeted all-electric options over the next decade, a handful are prepared to explore different options and hydrogen is being taken seriously by some of the biggest names in the industry.

Renault revealed their 2021 financial results last week and as part of the presentation gave the press a teasing look at an un-named concept vehicle, which will be revealed in full in May. ‘Sustainabilty’ appears to be the buzz word for the concept, with Gilles Vidal, the company’s newly installed design chief creating a concept that would ‘translate the Group’s sustainable development commitments.’

The company CEO, Luca de Meo, who delivered the financial news said: “We will soon launch a concept car. We wanted to materialise our vision of sustainability, based on the three pillars - safety, inclusion and environment - on one product. This concept will announce a future product. When we do concepts at Renault, we want to turn them into real cars.

The iconic French brand have already committed to delivering 27 new models in the next three years and de Meo is confident that a proposed all-electric Megane and a full-size SUV offer a bright future for the company.

“Our real goal is the competitiveness of our future line-up,” he said. “I’m very confident on what we’re doing with engineering and design, so all the projects look very, very good. We’re building the best product line-up that Renault has had in the past several decades, at least.”
