Sometimes your wallet won’t stretch to purchasing your dream motor. But don’t worry too much, there are some cars that even the biggest bank balances can’t buy, the dream cars that will forever remain a dream. These are the concept cars that never go into production.
BMW Gina
A car made of spandex. Let’s repeat that. A CAR MADE OF SPANDEX.
The Gina, which apparently is an acronym for ‘Geometry and functions In ‘N’ Adaptations’? Which sounds like the artist has had a little too much control over the overall concept, but hey, they designed a car made from spandex, so we might let that one fly.
Spandex apparently is a material which is durable, resilient and able to cope with extreme temperatures, it was also used a lot in the 1970s for fashion, however we’re not sure that that is the reason that BMW thought it might be a good idea to make a car skin from it. Spandex is also stretchy, which we can confirm is one of the reasons, as this car can change shape due to the moveable frame.
So we’ve got a spoiler that can jump out from nowhere for high-speed cruising and though in daylight we have no headlights, when night comes around, the ‘eyelids’ open to reveal the full-beam.
Chris Bangle, BMW’s Head of Design was responsible for this spandex miracle and wanted to “challenge existing principles and conventional processes,” when construction began in 2001.
Though it's the interior which screams ‘look at me’, the interior is all style and class. The steering wheel sit in a central idle position when parked, allowing for easy access. Everything shifts into place when the driver presses the start button.
CarSupermarket.com cant promise you any spandex, but there are more than 170 BMW’s to choose from.
