These Used Cars Are Rising In Value - Find Out Why!

Tue 17th Jul 2018

Whilst most used cars are certain to depreciate in value over time, offering some real value for money for those keen to spot a bargain, especially at CarSupermarket.com, the latest data suggests that there are some used cars which are gaining in value!

Though we might expect to see some classic cars from days gone by to have a higher price tag, due to their rarity, it is certainly unusual to see more modern used cars worth more than when new.

The research conducted by price specialist HPI shows that electric cars are rising in value on their list, but even some petrol and hybrids are also going up in price.

The Renault Zoe tops the list, the data suggests that if you paid £6,300 for the car in July 2017 and put just 12,000 miles on the clock, the same car would now be worth £1,900 more!

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular as charging points become more readily available and the UK public gets turned on to the idea of going green.  That fact and the lack of a large stock of electric cars is probably what is driving the prices of EVs. It’s not just electric though, some cheap to run petrol cars, such as the Nissan Micra and Skoda Citigo are also appreciating in value.

“It is rare to see cars appreciate in value but the market is seeing an unusual combination of factors,” said HPI’s Head of Current Valuations, Derren Martin.

'We do have to stress that, just because these models have increased in value in the last year, it doesn't guarantee the same will happen again in the next 12 months.
