Toyota has announcedthe fifth generation of its world-leading self-charging, full hybrid electric system to UK customers with the new Corolla.
The new Corolla will feature four different trim levels, including Icon, Design, Excel and the GR Sport, while the 1.8- and 2.0-litre hybrid setups are still available, they have been uprated to provide more horsepower, improved performance and handling, with the same or reduced CO2 emissions (depending on the powertrain).
The PCU and transaxle have been redesigned, and the lithium-ion battery is smaller, lighter, and more powerful (18 kg lighter). Drivers will also notice a more direct drive force response to their throttle pedal usage.
The 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 138bhp, reducing the 0-62mph sprint by 1.7 seconds to 9.2 seconds, while lowering CO2 emissions to 102 g/km from 102 g/km. To boost performance, the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 193bhp, reducing the 0-62mph time by almost half a second to 7.5 seconds. A reduction of 3 g/km in the combined cycle CO2 figure is expected, to 107 g/km.
Toyota’s latest digital and multimedia systems are crafted to offer a seamless over-the-air update experience, resulting in a more user-friendly and future-proofed user experience.
The Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system includes a 10.5-inch multimedia display with high-definition graphics and an anti-glare screen. Toyota Smart Connect is included with all cars for four years, giving real-time traffic and journey information as well as “always on” cloud navigation.
An individual can utilise a new in-vehicle voice agent to make use of the vehicle's multimedia functions or window openings and closings, for example.
Drivers can use the MyT app to lock and unlock their vehicle, adjust the climate control before a trip, and activate the hazard lights using new remote services.
The new 12.3-inch combimeter can be customized to the driver's preference in four different modes: Casual, Smart, Sport, and Tough.
The Corolla line has a more refined and contemporary look with alterations to the front grille mesh pattern, fog light bezels, and alloy wheel designs. Design, Excel, and GR Sport versions of the hatchback and Touring Sports vehicles include new bi-LED headlights (with an Adaptive High-beam System (AHS)).
Juniper Blue, a striking colour with red undertones, is one of the exterior paint choices. Silver flakes enhance the metallic look of Decuma Grey, a timeless colour.
The cabin's interiors have been redesigned to give a more modern and premium look with new graphics, trims, and embossed patterns that accentuate the upholstery, surfaces, and finishes. The trim and seat upholstery selections follow the new Dark and Light Harmony themes, which emphasise co-ordinated colours and textures.
