Britain’s musical and motoring tastes have been put to the test with a revealing new poll which puts one classic rock tune top of the pops for driving.
Motor insurance firm Cuvva have polled 2,000 motorists to find which song they love driving to, and there can be no surprises at the winner. Made famous in an iconic scene from the movie Wayne’s World, the British rock anthem Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen has been voted the UK’s No.1 driving tune.
At six minutes long, and containing some pure head-banging moments, Bohemian Rhapsody beat a long list of stone-cold classics to take the top tune award, with Dancing Queen by Abba, Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and Go You Own Way by Fleetwood Mac also popular.
More than half (52%) of those polled said they listen to music to relieve boredom, while 34 per cent use a pounding beat to stay alert.
Psychologist Lee Chambers, speaking on behalf of car insurance provider Cuvva which commissioned the survey, said: “When we are out on the road, travelling at speed, navigating directions and other road users can make journeys stressful.
"While we can't control congestion or how other road users behave, the music we listen to is something that we can control.
“Calming music can centre and ground you when feeling frustrated or angry.
"Alternatively, if you’re feeling fatigued and having brain fog, accessing some tunes which help with attention, focus and concentration can help you with those final few miles of a long journey.
“Sometimes there are days when you get in the car and you just feel flat and uninspired.
"In these instances, the mood-boosting benefits of belting out some pop lyrics and dancing in your seat can't be beaten.”
