Move over Rolls-Royce and Bentley, a new kid on the block has arrived to challenge the status quo for the world's most sought after luxury car.
According to research from Money.co.uk, the world’s most popular ‘luxury’ car is the Tesla Model S - a claim which is sure to infuriate motoring journalists and luxury car aficionados alike.
Where many might consider pure luxury cars to be right at the high end of the market, and including models from Rolls-Royce and Bentley - the inclusion of what many consider ‘premium’ models kind of makes a mockery of the report.
The research demonstrates that the Tesla Model S is the most popular ‘luxury’ car in a total of 29 countries, beating the Audi A8 (?!?) into second place, which is only the most popular in 22 different countries.
Rolls-Royce see three of their models feature in the top 15, with the Phantom, Vogue and Cullinan top of the pops in 19 different countries. The Bentley Continental GT and Bentayga also feature highly in five separate countries - which begs the question, what qualified for the car to be considered luxury.
“Every petrolhead has a dream car. For some it’s a cool classic motor, for others it’s an exotic supercar – but there are those who have something altogether more classy in mind,” said the Money.co.uk report
“Luxury cars are all about the finer things in life, offering plenty of leg room and plush interiors to help get you from A-to-B in total comfort. While they come with a pretty hefty price tag, what are the worlds most lusted after luxury motors, if money were no option?
“Our research found that the Tesla Model S is the world's most wanted luxury car, topping the wish-lists in 29 different countries. Meaning that the zero emissions Tesla is significantly more desired than uber-luxurious brands like Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and Bentley.”
