The electric revolution is coming faster than ever, at the speed of a Porsche 911, thanks to the efforts of an innovative Dutch company.
Voitures Extravert is taking old Porsche 911s and turning them into electric vehicles. In a project called ‘Quintessenza’, the company will take 1970 and 1980s models, give them a 60-kilowatt-hour battery pack with a modern electric powertrain.
The revitalised 911s will have a range of 250 miles and be capable of 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds. Voitures Extravert are also promising a range of improvements to the old Porsche’s with air-conditioning, power steering and even a smoother ride due to the distribution of the battery backs at both the front and back of the car.
It’s not just a case of swapping petrol engine for battery-packs for the Dutch company. They strip the Porsche’s right back to the frame and actually make it look like the 1960s 911, putting classic cars back on the road, but with futuristic ethics.
The reborn Porsche 911s are available for 300,000 euros, and that price includes the Dutch company sourcing donor cars and parts. However, if you want one, you will have to wait till 2019 as they have sold all five of its production slots for 2019.
