Why This Mazda Is One Of The Safest On The Road

Mazda’s CX-30 may be an unassuming family SUV, but it has just received one of the best ever Euro NCAP safety ratings.

With an adult occupancy score of 99 per cent the £23,000 car is deemed one of the safest since Euro NCAP began publishing ratings in 1997. The score is based on factors such as front and side whiplash tests, and to determine the safety of adult drivers and passengers during a crash.

Matthew Avery, director of insurance research at Thatcham Research, said: "This is a truly impressive result.

"The Mazda CX-30 is a mainstream vehicle, available at an affordable price point performing at the highest level in impact testing.

"In the event of an accident, there are few safer places to be than the front seats of the Mazda CX-30.

"The structure of the vehicle and the performance of its restraints are key.

"Especially in the side pole test which encourages carmakers to fit side-curtain airbags to protect occupants’ heads in a collision."

The Mazda CX-30 gained maximum scores in full-width barrier, side impact and side pole tests, but child occupancy protection (86%) and vulnerable road users (80%) didn’t fare so well in the Euro NCAP test.

However overall the family SUV received the same five-star score as the Mercedes-Benz GLB and Ford Explorer.
