If 2020 is to be ‘year of electric’ then the early signs are positive with one leading marque being the fastest selling car in the early weeks of the year.
According to data provided by Auto Trader, the fastest selling used car so far is the 2016 Renault ZOE electric automatic, which is taking on average just 25 days to move off the forecourts.
Surprisingly the ZOE is the only EV in the top ten of fastest selling cars in a list which goes against popular opinion by revealing that five of the top ten cars are diesels, with the 2016 Mazda CX-5 diesel manual the second fastest car to sell at just 28 days.
The fastest selling petrol engine is the Toyota AYGO in third place, while Dacias are holding up well with the Logan MCV, Sandero Stepway and the Duster all featuring in the top ten.
The slowest selling car was the 2019 Vauxhall Combo Life which took 150 days to sell.
Auto Trader’s director of commercial products, Karolina Edwards-Smajda, said: “Despite a slight increase of traditional fuelled vehicles on the top 10, it’s impossible to ignore the huge shift in consumer perception towards low emission cars.
“While we’re a long way from mass adoption, every metric on our marketplace indicates an ever-growing appetite for electric. Not only has the ZOE continued its reign into the new year, but over the last 12 months we’ve seen a significant 78% increase in searches for EVs on Auto Trader.
“With more and more new generation models set to reach showrooms this year, coupled with fast improving infrastructure, its looking increasingly likely that 2020 will indeed be the year of electric.”
