Remember, the salesperson is there to help you

If you’re nervous, keep these lines as simple scripts - they’re normal, reasonable and expected:

• “Can I see the service history and any receipts?”

• “Has the car had any accidents or major repairs?”

• “When was the timing belt / battery / tyres last replaced?” (if applicable)

• “Can I take it for a test drive on roads I choose?”

• “Is there any outstanding finance on the car?”

• “What warranty do you provide and what does it cover?”

• “Do you offer a short return period if a serious fault appears?”

• “Can you show me the last MOT certificate and any advisories?”

• “Is the price the final figure, or are there admin fees I should know about?”

• “Does the car have 2 sets of keys?”

A good dealership will welcome your questions, let you test the car properly, and give you time to decide. This checklist is your tool to feel confident and in control.
